Summary

Luc is a partner in Taft’s Business group, advising domestic and international companies on mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, strategic partnerships, and complex commercial matters. He also serves as outside general counsel to foreign-owned businesses operating in the United States, guiding both strategic transactions and day-to-day legal issues.

Over the past 20 years Luc has advised on more than 100 transactions across five continents and a wide range of industries, including food and agriculture, manufacturing, technology, healthcare, education, and logistics. Clients rely on Luc to manage sophisticated transactions, coordinate multi-jurisdictional legal teams, and drive deals efficiently from inception to closing. His transactions range in size from sub $20 million to over $200 million, and include a large volume of cross-border activity.  Recent engagements have included:

  • Adviser to a privately held French food company on $85 million acquisition of a US family-owned business
  • Adviser to a privately held French industrial materials company on multiple acquisitions in the US (ranging in size from a few million to $200 million)
  • Adviser to a major German foundation-owned diversified industrial technology group on multiple acquisitions and joint ventures in the US (ranging in size from a few million to $100 million)
  • Adviser to a leading Brazilian agribusiness with global operations in respect of their US subsidiaries (including M&A activity)
  • Adviser to several UK and French private equity firms in respect of their US M&A (including one of the largest PE firms in France)
  • Adviser to two of France’s largest agricultural cooperatives (one in the dairy industry and the other in the sugar industry) in respect of their US operations

In addition to transactional work, Luc frequently serves as the primary U.S. legal advisor to foreign companies and investors, working closely with these clients to develop solutions aligned with business objectives, and covering a broad range of projects including joint ventures, developing supply chain, distribution and sales networks (including within regulated industries like healthcare and food/ag), and assisting with material disputes and labor matters (with the help of Taft specialists), including litigation and arbitration.

Luc received his bachelor of science (BS) in finance, as well as his JD, from the University of Illinois, and worked as an equity options trader between undergraduate and law school at the Chicago Board Options Exchange.  He was born and raised in France and also lived several years in Argentina.  A dual citizen of France and the United States, Luc is fluent in French, English, and Spanish. He brings a global perspective that helps bridge cultural differences, facilitate negotiations, and achieve successful outcomes. Clients value his ability to act as both legal advisor and business partner, drawing on Taft’s full platform to efficiently address the most complex challenges.
