Ian Hoke

Ian is an attorney in Taft’s Real Estate practice group with more than a decade of experience counseling developers, owners, and investors on complex commercial real estate projects. He advises clients throughout the project life cycle, from acquisition and financing through development, construction, leasing, operation, and disposition. His work spans a range of asset classes, including retail, multifamily, student housing, hospitality, industrial, and office.

Ian served as lead counsel for a build-to-rent development program from its inception through its growth into a multistate portfolio encompassing more than 1,700 rental homes across five states. He also oversaw legal matters for a portfolio comprising more than 1 million square feet of retail space, 2,500 multifamily units, and 1,500 student housing beds.

Prior to joining Taft, Ian held senior in-house counsel roles at Cleveland-based real estate development and investment companies, where he regularly advised executive leadership on transactional, operational, and strategic matters. Drawing on that experience, Ian takes a practical, business-focused approach to structuring transactions, managing risk, and addressing portfolio-wide legal needs.
