Betsy’s clients rely on her as a trusted business advisor who has extensive knowledge of a wide range of real estate matters as well as a practical “can do” approach to getting deals done. She concentrates her practice on a broad range of complex commercial real estate transactions, including financing, joint ventures, development, leasing, restructuring, acquisitions and sales.
She has extensive experience representing private equity fund investors in all aspects of their real estate portfolios, lenders and borrowers in connection with complex construction, permanent, and mezzanine financing, and an international cold storage warehouse developer and operator in connection with developing, financing and operating cold storage facilities. She also has extensive experience representing landlords and tenants in industrial, office and retail leasing (including ground leases), and representing a national franchisor in structuring complex air rights and redevelopment projects.

- Represented affiliates of NewCold Cooperatiëf U.A. in its acquisition and construction loan with Zions First National Bank for the construction of its state-of-the-art cold storage facility in Lebanon, Indiana, near Indianapolis. This project created the largest automated cold storage facility in the United States.
- Represented affliliates of Artemis Real Estate Partners, LLC and its joint venture partners in its acquisition of a ground leasehold interest and financing of a 111,060 square foot medical office building in Atlanta, Georgia.
- Represented The Virginia Tech Foundation, Inc. in the acquisition and lease of property for a 1 million square foot “Innovation Campus” in Alexandria, Virginia. The project will represent an investment of over a billion dollars by the Commonwealth of Virginia, Virginia Tech, and The Virginia Tech Foundation, Inc.
- Represented Washington Gas in leasing its new corporate headquarters in Washington, D.C.
- Represented a private equity investor in the joint venture acquisition, development, and financing two student housing projects in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
- Represented an international fast food franchisor in structuring a complex project involving the sale of property, condominium documents and restrictive covenants, and the redevelopment and acquisiton of property in a new mixed-use project in New York, New York.
- Represented Goodwill of Greater Washington in connection with a complex redevelopment project involving a joint venture, tax credit financing, six loans, three ground leases, recorded covenants, the acquisition of a shopping center, and the construction of low-income housing and a new retail store.
- Represented a landlord for a 200,000 square foot lease to Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP, which lease received the 2011 Washington Business Journal Best Real Estate Deal Award for Lease Renewal.
- Represented a landlord for a 173,000 square foot lease to The CNA Corporation; which lease received the 2012 Commercial Real Estate Women Dealmaking Award.
- Represented a private equity investor and a Florida developer in the joint venture acquisition of land and the construction, financing, leasing, and sale of an industrial property in Ocala, Florida.
- Represented a private equity investor and a Florida developer in the joint venture acquisition of land and the construction, infrastructure development, financing, and sale of thousands of lots to homebuilders for several large single-family and townhome projects in Florida.
- Represented a private equity investor and a Baltimore based developer in the joint venture acquisition, financing, and sale of 42 retail properties in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
- Represented a private equity investor for a $38 million private equity qualified opportunity zone investment and joint venture transaction as well as a $42 million construction loan pertaining to the development of a Virgin Hotel in New Orleans, Louisiana.
- Represented a private equity investor and its joint venture partner in connection with the acquisition, financing and sale of four hotels near Orlando, Florida.
- Represented a private equity investor and its joint venture partner in connection with over $200 million of financing secured by a portfolio of properties in eight states.
