
Summary
Darrell is an Intellectual Property (IP) attorney with deep experience in IP disputes and litigation as well as commercial and government transactions involving IP, including licensing, research & development, and mergers & acquisitions. He draws on his prior experience as in-house counsel to help clients align their IP strategies with their broader business goals in both the commercial and defense industries. With a deep understanding of how companies navigate innovation, risk, and growth, Darrell advises clients on securing, protecting, and maximizing the value of their IP assets.
Darrell has represented companies in a wide range of technology areas, including aerospace, manufacturing, high-tech, and fintech. He has been involved in patent and trade secret litigation throughout the United States in federal trial and appellate courts and proceedings before administrative bodies, including the USPTO’s Patent Trial & Appeal Board and the International Trade Commission.
Prior to joining Taft, Darrell was senior IP counsel for GE Aerospace, handling IP matters for its commercial and defense businesses as well as its research center. He also previously worked as an IP attorney at an international law firm, doing intellectual property litigation and counseling clients on patent prosecution, freedom-to-practice, and portfolio diligence. During 2013-2014, Darrell clerked for The Honorable Randall R. Rader, former chief judge of the U.S Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
Darrell earned his J.D. from The George Washington University Law School and his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from The Ohio State University.
Darrell is admitted in Virginia and Washington D.C., and his admission in Ohio is pending.
