Summary
Adam is a senior associate in Taft’s Appellate and Critical Motion Practice Group, where he represents clients in high-stakes litigation matters before state and federal trial and appellate courts throughout Illinois. His practice focuses on complex motions practice, appeals, and strategic briefing in matters involving significant financial exposure, novel legal questions, and intricate procedural issues. Known for his meticulous, research-driven approach, Adam develops persuasive legal arguments that help position clients for success at every stage of litigation, from pretrial dispositive motions through post-trial proceedings and appellate review. His ability to synthesize extensive factual records, distill complicated legal issues, and craft compelling written advocacy makes him a trusted resource for both trial counsel and appellate teams.
Adam has extensive experience handling sophisticated appellate and trial-level advocacy in both state and federal courts. He has successfully defended favorable rulings on appeal and obtained reversal of adverse decisions, including appeals involving eight-figure jury verdicts. He routinely drafts and argues dispositive motions, post-trial motions, appellate briefs, emergency motions, and petitions involving complex questions of statutory interpretation, jurisdiction, evidentiary issues, and constitutional and procedural law. In addition to serving as appellate counsel, Adam works closely with trial teams to preserve appellate issues, develop litigation strategy, and navigate critical procedural and jurisdictional challenges that can significantly impact the trajectory of a case.
His practice spans a broad range of substantive areas, including commercial litigation, class action defense, product liability, trade secrets and restrictive covenant disputes, privacy and data protection litigation, medical negligence, personal injury, insurance coverage, employment disputes, and other complex business and tort matters. Adam represents and advises clients operating in a broad range of heavily regulated industries, including healthcare and hospital systems, financial institutions, private equity firms, manufacturers, technology companies, transportation and logistics companies, construction and engineering firms, retail and consumer products companies, real estate developers and property management companies, hospitality businesses, professional services firms, and nonprofit organizations. Adam frequently assists clients in navigating nuanced statutory and regulatory frameworks and has experience addressing issues arising under evolving privacy and consumer protection laws, industry-specific regulations, and complex procedural rules.
Clients and colleagues value Adam for his thoughtful and strategic approach to litigation. He is particularly skilled at identifying dispositive legal issues early in a case, developing cohesive briefing strategies, and presenting complex arguments in a clear and persuasive manner. Whether preparing appellate briefing, advising trial counsel on preservation issues, or handling critical motions in fast-paced litigation, Adam approaches every matter with precision, responsiveness, and a deep understanding of appellate advocacy and procedure.
Adam earned his J.D., summa cum laude, from Loyola University Chicago School of Law. While at Loyola, he earned certificates in Corporate & Transactional Law and Taxation and received the Hugh L. Dick Award for Excellence for achieving the highest grade point average in Loyola’s tax program. He also served as a student articles editor for the Loyola University Chicago Law Journal, where he refined his legal research and writing skills through substantive editorial work on scholarly legal publications. In addition to his academic achievements, Adam was a member of the 2019 Andrews Kurth Moot Court National Championship team, an experience that further developed his oral advocacy and appellate litigation skills. During law school, Adam served as a judicial extern to the Honorable Sidney I. Schenkier of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. In that role, he gained firsthand insight into judicial decision-making, legal analysis, and the litigation process in complex federal matters, which continues to inform his strategic approach to briefing and advocacy.
Adam is admitted to practice in Illinois, the United States District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Illinois, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.
