Taft to Sponsor Cincinnati Premiere of “How to Poison a Planet”

On July 15, Taft will sponsor Green Umbrella’s Cincinnati premiere of the award-winning documentary, “How to Poison a Planet,” at Cincinnati World Cinema. The evening begins with a reception at 6:30 p.m., followed by the film screening at 7:00 p.m. and a post-film discussion featuring renowned environmental attorney Rob Bilott and local water experts.

Tickets are limited and available for $25. All proceeds from ticket sales will benefit Green Umbrella’s mission to build a more resilient Greater Cincinnati.

“How to Poison a Planet,” featuring Mark Ruffalo, Bilott, and members of Bilott’s legal team, traces the devastating impact of PFAS “forever chemical” contamination, originating from products like firefighting foam, across communities from New York City and Minnesota to a small First Nations community in Australia. Through compelling storytelling and investigative journalism, the documentary reveals one of the most widespread environmental disasters in history.

The event’s featured guest, Bilott, is a partner at Taft, Green Umbrella Board Member, and a leading figure in environmental litigation against PFAS manufacturers. Bilott’s decades-long legal battles against chemical giants like DuPont and 3M have resulted in historic settlements and increased public awareness of the dangers posed by PFAS. His book, “Exposure: Poisoned Water, Corporate Greed, and One Lawyer’s Twenty-Year Battle Against DuPont,” inspired the 2019 film, “Dark Waters,” in which Mark Ruffalo portrayed Bilott.

Bilott’s efforts have helped secure multiple trial verdicts and settlements valued at over $15 billion for clients damaged by PFAS across the country and earned him the international Right Livelihood Award, often referred to as the “Alternative Nobel Prize.” He continues to serve as an international leader in PFAS “forever chemicals” litigation and advocacy.
