Expansion of Interview Waiver Eligibility
Today, the Department of State announced the temporary expansion of interview waiver eligibility for individuals applying for renewal of a non-immigrant visa in the same classification. Applicants whose non-immigrant visas expired within 24 months are now eligible for interview waivers at US embassies and consulates, at the consular officers’ discretion. This policy will allow consular officers to complete processing non-immigrant visa applications without having applicants appear at a consular section for an interview. The policy will reduce consular officers’ exposure to COVID-19 and remains in effect until Dec. 31, 2020.
