Summary

Sanjay is a nationally recognized trial attorney with experience in close to 20 trials. He represents leading life science and technology companies in a broad range of intellectual property disputes in federal district courts, before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, and in Section 337 investigations in the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC). In addition to an active litigation practice, Sanjay manages patent portfolios for several leading pharmaceutical and medical device companies. He also leverages his trial experience to assist clients with EPO opposition proceedings, freedom-to-operate matters, due diligence investigations, patent portfolio audits, and licensing and collaboration transactions. Sanjay has significant experience working on trade secret matters, unfair competition claims, trademark infringement, and employee mobility issues.

He has been recognized as a leading practitioner by numerous publications, including Best Lawyers, IAM Patent 1000, The Legal 500, Managing Intellectual Property, Lawdragon, LMG Life Sciences, and Crain’s Chicago Business. Sanjay was named “Litigator of the Week” by The American Lawyer in 2019.

Sanjay works with many technologies including pharmaceuticals (e.g., small molecules, antibodies, animal vaccines, and diagnostics), medical devices (e.g., implantable pulse generators, dialysis machines, drug infusion pumps, and stent grafts), methods for manufacturing recombinant proteins (e.g., Factor VIII and alpha-1 antitrypsin), cell-based therapeutics (CAR-T cells, tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes, and stem cells), organic/polymer chemistry, power tools, oil drilling fluids, digital cameras, smart phones, and automotive components.

For the past seven years, Sanjay has served on the faculty of the Practicing Law Institute’s “Developments in Pharmaceutical and Biotech Patent Law” conference. He also speaks on IP-related ethics issues for the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA), Intellectual Property Owners (IPO), and the legal departments of multiple global companies.

Sanjay has an active pro bono practice. He has worked to reunite children separated from their parents by Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE), force the release of numerous families detained by ICE in facilities threatened by COVID-19, and obtain significant monetary settlements for prisoners in civil rights cases.
