Known for his collaborative approach and steady counsel, Robert serves as a trusted advisor to mining and energy companies, commercial lending and financial institutions, and privately held businesses, frequently acting as outside general counsel to help clients navigate both day-to-day operations and long-term strategic goals.

Robert advises clients on a wide range of corporate matters, including commercial transactions, mergers and acquisitions, capital raises, debt and equity financing, operational issues, corporate governance, and regulatory compliance. He works closely with leadership teams, boards of directors, and entrepreneurs to provide practical solutions tailored to each client’s business objectives.

Within the mining industry, Robert counsels clients through every stage of mining operations, from startup and development through full-scale operations. His experience includes transactional, regulatory, and compliance matters involving coal, gold, copper, and hydraulic fracturing sand mines across Colorado, Texas, Wyoming, Utah, and Nevada, as well as international mining operations. He regularly advises clients on Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) compliance and works with state environmental agencies on permitting and operational matters.

Robert also represents clients in the electric utilities sector, advising on a variety of transactional and operational matters, including power purchase agreements, equipment procurement, distribution maintenance, transmission substation construction, and territory acquisitions.

In the financial services sector, Robert has guided numerous buy/sell transactions involving independent community banks and non-depository institutions. He advises boards and executive leadership on mergers and acquisitions, capital planning, strategic growth initiatives, regulatory compliance, governance matters, and application approvals.

As outside general counsel to privately held companies across a range of industries, including financial institutions, office supply distribution, multiple listing services, petroleum fuel supply, and investment management. Robert advises boards, senior management teams, and business owners on matters related to corporate governance, capital formation, ownership structures, and strategic transactions.

Robert’s experience includes drafting and negotiating a broad range of commercial agreements, including partnership and joint venture agreements, LLC operating agreements, stock purchase agreements, real estate and service agreements, license and royalty agreements, surface use agreements, engineering, procurement and construction contracts, and loan and security agreements, among other domestic and international business contracts.

Robert formerly served as a commissioner for the Colorado Department of Transportation, where he was involved in strategic planning and public outreach efforts for the Transportation Expansion Project (T-REX), which expanded the Southeast Corridor of Interstate 25 and added a new light rail transit system. He is also certified by the National Association of Development Companies (NADCO) to advise certified development companies on matters involving the Small Business Administration 504 loan program.
