Summary

M (Michael) is a skilled family law attorney and chair of the firms national Domestic Relations practice. They serve as a creative and meticulous advocate for clients facing challenging family situations, especially in the areas of divorce, child custody, family law appeals, and issues involving LGBTQ+ families.

Many of their divorce clients are business owners, public figures, professional athletes, entrepreneurs, C-suite executives, and medical and legal professionals and their families. Often these clients are facing divorces involving high and ultra-high net worth estates with closely-held businesses and family partnerships, intergenerational wealth and trusts, difficult valuation issues, or fraud and concealed assets.

In addition, parents navigating the complexities of high-conflict child custody cases, centering on allegations of abuse, alienation, or serious mental illness, seek M out as seasoned litigation counsel for trial and motion practice.

They are also among the few family law attorneys who have repeatedly argued cases before Minnesota’s appellate courts – including multiple precedent-setting cases before Minnesota’s Supreme Court–on issues ranging from spousal maintenance, to custody, to property valuation and division.

Beyond helping clients the family law system, they are also committed to transforming and improving the practice of family law including on behalf of LGBTQ+ families. They regularly serve as an adjunct professor, teaching the next generation of family law attorneys; serves as faculty at continuing education seminars for judges, lawyers, and mediators; and authors articles, columns, and other resources for family law attorneys, including Minnesota Family Law, the state’s definitive practice guide on divorce, child custody, and family law.

As a trusted resource, M is frequently cited in the media on divorce and child custody issues, appearing in The Wall Street Journal, Fiscal Times, Forbes.com and the Star Tribune. Their accomplishments and contributions have also been recognized across the legal community including honors from the Hennepin County, Minnesota State, and American Bar Associations.
