Joseph M. Baertschi

Joey focuses his practice on commercial litigation. He works on a wide variety of cases for his clients, such as breach of contract and Uniform Commercial Code disputes, promissory note enforcement, breach of fiduciary duty, intentional torts (including defamation and Anti-SLAPP defense), restrictive covenant enforcement, trademark and patent disputes, interpleader actions on behalf of financial institution clients, and FINRA arbitration.

Joey approaches each matter with careful attention to detail and a clear focus on long-term results. He seeks practical, efficient solutions to problems, with an eye towards protecting his clients’ legal interests at every stage while still finding ways to resolve disputes swiftly.

Joey earned his J.D., summa cum laude, from the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law with a Corporate & Commercial Law Certificate. While in law school, Joey served as an Associate Editor of the Indiana Law Review; clerked for the Hon. Heather A. Welch, Indiana Commercial Court, Marion County; and received the Christopher M. Maine Award for top oral advocate in the final round of the Staton Intramural Moot Court Competition. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration, summa cum laude, from Marian University.

Prior to joining Taft and while in law school, Joey worked as an associate attorney, litigation paralegal, and legal administrative assistant at an Indianapolis law firm. His experience with multiple roles in the legal field provides him with a unique and holistic perspective on the practice of law.
