Intellectual Property and Business Transactions

Jon’s intellectual property work focuses on copyright law representing rights holders on projects and transactions relating to the subsistence, protection, management, and monetization of their intellectual property assets.

His business transaction services support clients with corporate governance, business acquisitions and sales, and material commercial agreements. His education and experience in transactions informs his technical, business, and practical approach.

Jon’s projects are cross-disciplinary. They require knowledge and experience with (1) a substantive legal area such as copyright or licensing, (2) contract principles and practices, and (3) business finance.

Teaching

Jon is the Partner leader of the Taft Copyright Law Group.  This group is comprised of Taft attorneys who commit a substantial portion of their time to copyright training and education through collaborative learning and industry and community engagement.

Jon has been privileged to teach for the Denver Publishing Institute, Colorado Bar Association, PubWest (now Independent Book Publishers Association), World Intellectual Property Organization (a United Nations agency), and other organizations.

Performing Arts

Jon is a musician percussionist who plays conga drums and other instruments.
