John A. Garner

John is an attorney in Taft’s Private Client practice group. He has more than 40 years of experience advising clients in the areas of estate planning, real estate, and business transactions. He focuses his practice on sophisticated wealth transfer planning, including the use of life insurance trusts, charitable trusts, private foundations, family limited partnerships, and generation-skipping transfer trusts. John also regularly advises retired individuals on probate and trust administration matters.

In addition to his planning practice, John represents clients in probate and trust litigation. He is admitted to practice in Indiana, Florida, Georgia, and the U.S. Tax Court, and holds an LL.M. in Taxation from the University of Florida.

John is active in professional and community organizations. He is a member of the Estate Planning Council of Naples and served as a board member of the Council for 15 years. He has served as the president of Southwest Heritage, Inc. (the Naples Depot) and is currently a member of its Board of Directors. John is also active in Knights of Columbus, having served numerous positions in the local chapters, and has supported youth sports locally as a parent, coach, and league officer.
