Christopher J. Tuinenga

Chris is an associate in Taft’s Chicago office where he focuses on patent prosecution matters in the chemical and life sciences industries. Chris has experience in patent drafting, national stage prosecution, and ANDA antitrust litigation.

Chris graduated from Chicago-Kent College of Law. While in law school, Chris was Executive Associate Editor of the college’s Journal of Intellectual Property and a member of the Intellectual Property Law Society. He represented Chicago-Kent in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s National Patent Application Drafting Competition and the Thomas Tang Moot Court competition. Chris also participated in Chicago-Kent’s Entrepreneurial Law Clinic and the Intellectual Property Law Clinic.

Prior to law school, Chris held postdoctoral research positions at the U.S. Army Research Laboratories in Aberdeen, Maryland, and at the University of Notre Dame Radiation Research Laboratory, where he researched the emissive properties of doped nanocrystals. Chris earned his Ph.D. in chemistry from Kansas State University where he researched nanocrystal growth mechanisms and the optical properties of doped semiconductor nanocrystals.
