Woods to Speak at Construction Lien Seminar
Taft partner Lowell Woods, Jr. will present on Ohio mechanics’ lien law and briefly address other collection strategies. He will review the rules and requirements for mechanics’ liens in the context of both private and public construction and will also touch on other collection strategies that can be used in conjunction with liens.
Where a contractor is faced with a payment dispute, a mechanic’s lien can be a critical tool in leveraging payment and, in certain circumstances, it may be the only means to get paid. However, the process for properly preserving rights and asserting a lien is detailed and is strictly construed by the Ohio courts, and a failure to understand and follow the technical requirements of the Ohio lien statute can be fatal to lien rights.
