Taft/Sherman & Howard Attorneys Highlight Emerging Issues at CBA 2025 Family Law Institute

Taft, formerly Sherman & Howard, attorneys Joseph Bronesky, Kathryn DeVries, Marte Timmers, and Madeleine Rosengrants were featured speakers at the Colorado Bar Association (CBA) 2025 Family Law Institute in Vail, CO.

Bronesky and Devries partnered with retired Judge Angela Arkin to analyze case scenarios in “The Privilege Puzzle: Strategies for Problem Solving While Protecting Privacy.” They explored the critical nuances of privilege in family law cases, helping attorneys navigate issues related to disclosure requests for communications with translators, divorce coaches, therapists, and expert witnesses.

Timmers served on the panel “Deal or Ordeal? The Good, Bad and Ugly of Business Valuation with Buy-Out and Business Continuation.” Alongside Harper Hofer & Associates partner Andrew Baum and 18th Judicial District Court judges Benjamin Figa and Michelle E. Jones, Timmers discussed the basic components of a business valuation and what courts look for when allocating or restructuring a marital business.

Rosengrants joined retired Judge Randall Arp and Freedberg Ltd. Managing Member Jay Freedberg to share a litigant’s perspective in the panel “Beyond Trust: Understanding Property, Income, and Judicial Expectations.” They examined the intersection of trust law and family law, including its impact on asset division, maintenance, and child support.

Their insights shed light on emerging complexities in family law, establishing Taft as one of the institute’s most valuable sources of knowledge and experience.
