Spencer and Thomas Give Guidance on Employee Theft Prevention
Taft attorneys Devin Spencer and Dave Thomas co-wrote the article, “5 Realistic Ways to Prevent Employee Theft,” in the Columbus Bar Association’s most recent Legal Connections newsletter. The article provides theft prevention guidance for employers including conducting background checks, implementing handbook policies and monitoring time theft. Spencer focuses her practice on company, school district and employer liability under state and federal laws, including the ADA, FMLA, FLSA and Title VII. She regularly handles compliance issues, including job descriptions and applications, employment contracts, non-competition agreements and release and separation agreements.
Thomas is a member of Taft’s Corporate Compliance and White Collar Criminal Defense practice. He represents companies, public officials, health care providers and other professionals who are the subject of state and federal investigations and prosecutions. He also assists clients in responding to subpoenas from government regulators, including federal agencies such as the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and Drug Enforcement Administration and state agencies such as the Ohio Auditor’s Office, Ohio Ethics Commission and Ohio Inspector General.
