Dayton Labor & Employment Legal Update

The chronological distance between 2013 and 2014 is only one year, but employers will face several major challenges during that short time period concerning workers’ compensation benefits, safety policies and health insurance programs.  Taft and Mercer will present a seminar to discuss the important aspects of these developments, how they will impact your organization and what steps you should take to minimize the legal risks and associated costs.     On Thursday, March 14th  we will present a complimentary seminar for our clients and friends addressing the following topics:

1.   Workers’ Compensation Update
What's in store for Ohio employers in 2013: Insights from the CEO of the BWC –

2.   Prescription Drug Abuse
Addressing the epidemic of prescription drug abuse in the workplace:  How to detect abuse, limit its impact and minimize the negative consequences on your workers’ compensation claims and premiums.

3.   OSHA/VSSR/Intentional Tort
How to investigate a serious injury in order to limit legal exposure and minimize the possibility of recurrence: The interaction between OSHA regulations, VSSR provisions and Intentional Tort allegations.

4.  Mercer Survey
Mercer Annual Survey:  Trends and strategies for employers in the region and across the nation.

5. Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act
Ensuring compliance with the Affordable Care Act: What constitutes a “large employer?” Who are “variable” employees? Should your company “pay” or “play” with respect to coverage? What is the best strategy for minimizing costs in 2013 and 2014 — private exchanges, subcontracting, limiting growth? What does “affordable care” mean and to whom must it be provided?
