Biometric Privacy
Taft is a national leader in biometric privacy litigation and counseling. We have defended multiple public and private companies around the country against class action lawsuits and mass arbitrations brought under the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA) and other data privacy claims. We represent companies across a variety of industries, including, among others, technology, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, retail (online and brick and mortar), railroads and logistics, food and beverage, gaming, and automotive. We are also one of the primary law firms that litigates issues involving facial recognition, facial optics, virtual-try-on technology, and voice recognition technology.
We are thought leaders in BIPA, routinely creating new legal arguments and arguing first impression issues in order to serve our clients in this challenging new area of the law. We also work with clients regarding compliance with biometric privacy laws and questions related to insurance coverage.
Several of our attorneys have earned prestigious Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) Certifications, the preeminent credential in the field, in several important classifications. These certifications ensure that attorneys have knowledge regarding essential privacy concepts and principals and the jurisdictional laws, regulations, and enforcement models for handling and transferring data.
We work efficiently to defend clients in novel and traditional ways, all with the goal of putting our clients in the best possible position for success.
