The Fair Labor Standards Act (the “FLSA”) governs the employment relationship between employers and minors, provides for a minimum wage and requires employers to provide overtime compensation to eligible employees.  While the statute, which is enforced by the Department of Labor, remained relatively unchanged for decades, the FLSA has seen significant changes over the last several years, most notably with respect to when and to whom overtime compensation must be paid.
