On July 4, 2025, the President signed the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” which has sweeping tax changes that will affect individuals and businesses.
Executive Order 14262: Strengthening the Reliability and Security of the United States Electricity Grid
The EO directs the Department of Energy to invoke Section 202(c) of the Federal Power Act to keep power plants that may be approaching cessation of operations on the electricity grid and extend their operations. The EO requires that the Department of Energy undertake an evaluation of electricity reserve margins across the United States and identify any grid regions that do not have acceptable reserve margins, as determined by the Department of Energy (currently or in the future). Section 202(c) of the Federal Power Act has historically been used for short-term, emergency, conditions and not for long-term actions, as the EO suggests.
