On Aug. 7, Taft Domestic Relations attorneys Marte Timmers and Eliz Espinoza will present “Embryos in Limbo” at the Colorado Bar Association’s 2026 Family Law Institute.

Timmers and Espinoza will examine how Colorado law has been struggling to keep pace with the booming fertility industry. As IVF, egg freezing, and surrogacy become mainstream options for all types of families, courts and lawmakers are being forced to answer questions few anticipated: who owns a frozen embryo, whether an embryo should be considered property in a divorce, and whether a parent can walk away from legal responsibility for a child created through assisted reproduction.
