Taft/Sherman & Howard Expands FinTech Practice with 2 Renowned Partners

FinTech leaders Richard B. Levin and Bobby Wenner have joined Taft (formerly Sherman & Howard) in Denver. Levin is joining Taft as the chair of the firm’s FinTech practice.

Since the advent of electronic trading in the late 1990s and cryptocurrencies in early 2011, Levin has practiced at the forefront of financial technology and regulatory change. He is one of the first lawyers to focus on the regulation of blockchain and digital assets and is considered a thought leader in the FinTech space. Levin’s experience as a senior legal and compliance officer on Wall Street and in London enables him to advise clients on corporate, FinTech, securities, and regulatory issues.

“I was looking for a firm that was growing in the ‘right’ way, combining with a well-respected firm like Sherman & Howard that has a strong commitment and connection to the community,” said Levin. “With the strength of the combined Sherman & Howard and Taft platform, I found my forever home, where we can continue to grow our FinTech practice in a meaningful way.”

Wenner counsels financial services and technology firms on financial services regulatory and corporate matters, using his unique background as the chief legal officer of a FINRA-member broker-dealer and Alternative Trading System (ATS) designed for trading digital asset securities, as well as the associate general counsel of the holding company.

“We were looking for an enhanced platform and stronger presence in Denver,” Wenner added. “Taft has a well-defined growth strategy, which made the decision to join the firm an easy one. They have been following a growth model for years, and it is working well for them. Their vision for the future made sense for us and our practices.”

Levin and Wenner joined Taft from another 1,000-lawyer firm with a location in Denver.

“We’re pleased to welcome Richard and Bobby to Taft,” said Colorado Partner-in-Charge Stefan Stein. “Their experience and recognition in the FinTech industry is a fantastic addition to our firm. Gaining this type of talent for our clients is exactly why we chose to merge with Taft.”

Chambers-rated Levin earned his J.D. from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law and B.A. from Colorado College.  Wenner earned his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center and B.A. from the University of Denver.

Effective Jan. 1, 2025, Sherman & Howard combined with Taft, creating a firm powered by more than 1,000 attorneys from Washington, D.C. to the Mountain West. The combination enables both firms to deepen their benches of attorneys and strengthen their service offerings.
