Taft Litigation Team Achieves Dismissal of Data Breach Cases
On Oct. 28, 2022, Taft obtained the dismissal of two data breach class actions filed against our client, a large multi-specialty medical group. The cases stem from a 2021 data breach in which hackers allegedly accessed the personal health information and personal identifying information of more than half a million patients. In granting our motion to dismiss, Judge Jason M. Bohm of the Circuit Court of the Sixth Judicial Circuit held that one of the plaintiffs lacked standing and the other failed to state a claim. Due to the novel legal issues involved, the order is final and appealable.
The Taft team was led by Chicago partner Jeffrey Schieber and included attorneys Paul Yovanic, Jaimin Shah, and Daniel Saeedi.
