Strain Selected to IU Maurer Academy of Law Alumni Fellows

Taft partner emeritus Jim Strain was selected to the Indiana University Maurer School of Law Academy of Law Alumni Fellows (ALAF.) The ALAF recognizes alumni who have distinguished themselves in their careers through personal achievements and dedication to the highest standards of the profession. Past recipients have included those in professional roles such as U.S. senators, federal judges, and managing partners of national law firms. Academy Fellows are selected because of the honor they bring to the legal profession and enhance the school’s reputation. Induction into the Academy is the highest honor the Maurer School of Law bestows upon its graduates. Strain was recognized at an awards event on April 11.

Strain primarily practiced in the areas of securities law, mergers and acquisitions and corporate governance. Before joining Taft in 1996, Strain was the chairperson of the business department of Barnes & Thornburg, where he had been a partner since Jan. 1, 1976. Prior to joining Barnes & Thornburg in 1973, Strain had been law clerk to then Associate Justice William H. Rehnquist, October Term 1972, and before that to Judge John S. Hastings, then Senior Circuit Judge, United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, 1970-71. Between his clerkships, he was an associate with Cahill, Gordon & Reindel in New York City.
