Johnson Receives 2021 Leadership in Law Lifetime Achievement Award

Taft is pleased to announce that Lacy M. Johnson has been honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award as part of The Indiana Lawyer’s 2021 Leadership in Law Awards. Johnson, along with former Congresswoman Susan W. Brooks from the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law, was honored with this first-time award on Nov. 9. The award was created in 2021 to recognize lawyers who have achieved professional excellence, made significant contributions to the community, and have facilitated mentoring relationships with young lawyers. Johnson was featured in a special Leadership in Law issue here. Johnson, a partner in Taft’s Public Affairs Strategies Group, has had a remarkable career as a preeminent lawyer. President Biden appointed Johnson as an At-Large Member of the Democratic National Committee in 2021. He served on the Biden-Harris transition team, was a member of Vice President Harris’s Midwest Finance team, and is a trusted advisor and supporter of many Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) leaders and members. Johnson serves and has served in numerous leadership roles for civic, community, and professional organizations.

Prior to his private legal practice, Johnson served as a Lt. Colonel in the Indiana State Police, was a Lt. Commander of the U.S. Naval Intelligence Reserves, and served as the 7th District chairman of the Indiana State Democratic Party and as a delegate for the National Democratic party. He also is the past president of the Indianapolis Airport Authority.

Johnson is a member of Taft’s Executive Committee and serves as the partner-in-charge of the firm’s Washington, D.C. office.
