Howard and Midden to Speak at Minnesota CLE "The High-Net-Worth Institute"

Taft Minneapolis partners Andrew Howard and Alison Midden will speak at the Minnesota Continuing Legal Education (CLE) series, “The High-Net-Worth Institute,” on Sept. 28.

Howard will contribute to “The New Federal Landscape: Planning After Permanence,” addressing how the permanent higher federal exemption affects planning for high-net-worth individuals. Midden will present “Domicile, Residency and the Snowbird Problem,” focusing on the challenges of Minnesota residency audits.

Howard is a member of Taft’s Private Client and Estate Planning practice groups. He assists individuals and families with drafting wills and trusts, estate, gift and generation-skipping transfer tax issues, preparing federal and state income, estate and gift tax returns, probate matters, and trust administration and charitable planning. Howard also provides counsel to business owners and farmers related to succession planning. He advises them on entity structure, wealth transfer techniques, and the impact of the Minnesota estate tax deduction for small businesses and farms.

Midden co-chairs the firm’s Private Client and Estate Planning practice groups. She focuses her practice in the areas of estate planning, estate and trust administration, guardianships and conservatorships, and nonprofits. Alison advises clients on estate, gift, and generation-skipping transfer taxes, charitable planning, asset-protection planning, and disability planning. She is a trusted adviser to clients in estate and trust court proceedings as well, including will contest litigation and tax controversies.
