Accomplished employee benefits and executive compensation attorney Jeff Witt has joined the firm as a partner. Witt will join the firm’s Employee Benefits & Executive Compensation practice in Washington, D.C., bolstering the firm’s position as a national leader in employee benefits and executive compensation.

With over 25 years of experience, Witt serves as a trusted advisor to plan sponsor clients on complex retirement issues related to qualified plans, defined contribution (401(k)) plans, pension plans (including cash balance plans), executive compensation, severance programs, and fiduciary committees. He will provide cost-efficient solutions that balance the delivery of benefits with the financial constraints companies face, while also proactively advising clients on legal and industry developments in the retirement plan space.

“Jeff’s expertise is second to none, and his leadership will further enhance our EBEC practice, which is already regarded as one of the best in the country,” said Simon Malko. “His strategic and innovative approach to addressing complex benefits issues aligns perfectly with our commitment to delivering unparalleled value to our clients. We know Jeff will strengthen our practice in D.C. and beyond.”

Witt’s career includes prominent roles in both law firms and corporate settings, including serving as in-house counsel at Target, where he had legal responsibility for retirement programs and executive compensation. Most recently, Witt served as a principal at Groom Law Group, where he advised public and private companies on a wide array of employee benefits and compensation matters. His unique blend of law firm and in-house experience, coupled with his knowledge of both the legal and administrative operations of qualified and nonqualified retirement programs, allows him to provide comprehensive, practical, and business-focused advice.

“The Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation practice is as good as it gets, filled with talented attorneys with whom I’ve shared long-standing relationships,” said Witt. “The firm’s commitment to supporting plan sponsors aligns perfectly with my approach of providing holistic retirement solutions that help employers manage their most pressing employee benefits and compensation challenges. I’m excited to leverage my experience to build a robust practice in D.C., right where federal policy is made.”

Witt received his undergraduate degree in finance from the University of Colorado at Boulder and his law degree from the University of Minnesota Law School.
