Capeder and Cobb Featured in The American Lawyer on the Impact of Innovation in Lateral Market
Chief Client and Innovation Officer Lyndsay Capeder and Taft Partner Tyler Cobb were featured in a recent article by The American Lawyer, examining how innovation is reshaping lateral attorney movement across the legal industry.
The article, “Move Over Comp: Innovation Is Now a Key Driver Behind Lawyer Moves,” explores how firms are increasingly differentiating themselves through technology adoption, which is quickly becoming as influential as compensation in recruiting and retention decisions.
The feature overviews Cobb’s decision to transition to Taft, and how innovation was a key part of his process.
“I met with (Cobb) during the recruiting process to provide him with an overview of Taft’s overall strategy with innovation, what our approach was, where we were at in our lifecycle from a Gen AI strategy,” Capeder said in an interview. “And he has commented on several occasions that it was because of the way that Taft approaches innovation that was a key driver for him to come over to Taft.”
“It was really substantive, their commitment to staying sort of at the forefront of this and recognizing that we’re at an inflection point in the legal industry and that if we want to succeed that we’re going to have to figure out how to leverage this in a really effective way,” said Cobb. “It was really a material commitment to, how do we use this substantively to put ourselves ahead—as opposed to just a symbolic, yes, we’re committed to AI and some sort of generic statement.”
