Taft: A Growth Story Unlike Any Other
Today, Taft is among the fastest-growing law firms in the country with a reputation for building a truly unique national platform that is home to more than 1,100 lawyers – and growing. Following a long-term strategic plan to become one of the leading national middle-market firms, Taft has focused on purpose-driven mergers in new geographic markets which have substantially expanded its client service offerings, increasing lawyer headcount by more than 300% and revenues by more than 500% since 2017.
Building on this momentum, Taft has expanded its national presence through a series of key geographic moves in 2025:
- Atlanta and Washington, D.C.: Taft’s latest merger with Morris, Manning & Martin, a highly regarded firm with offices in Atlanta and Washington, D.C., was announced in August. It will bring approximately 100 lawyers and nearly 50 years of exceptional client service to the Taft platform, expanding its position in the Southeast. Following this merger, which closes on Dec. 31, 2025, Taft will have more than 1,200 lawyers in 25 offices across the country with projected combined revenues in excess of $1 billion. - Florida: On June 30, the firm completed its merger with Mrachek Law, an 18-attorney litigation boutique in Florida with offices in West Palm Beach and Stuart, marking Taft’s entrance into the Southeast. Complementing this move, Taft also launched an office in Naples in June, expanding its Private Client practice to Florida.
- Mountain West: In January, Taft combined with Sherman & Howard, Denver’s oldest and third-largest firm, expanding Taft’s distinctive business model across the Mountain West – including Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico and Nevada – adding approximately 125 lawyers and annual revenues in excess of $100 million. This strategic move strengthens Taft’s position as a super middle-market leader, delivering sophisticated legal services with deep regional insight. Merger video here.
Taft has now successfully completed eight mergers in 18 years across key expansion markets, including Jaffe Raitt Heuer & Weiss (Detroit), Briggs & Morgan (Minneapolis), Shefsky & Froelich (Chicago), Chester Willcox & Saxbe (Columbus), Kahn Kleinman (Cleveland), and Sommer Barnard (Indianapolis). Taft focuses on combining with dominant local firms with a material market presence – typically 100-plus lawyers – that have significant longevity and are recognized as active leaders in their legal and business communities. Following these mergers, virtually all these markets have seen a remarkable growth of lawyers, ranging from 30% to 150% – which is unusually high and a rarity for law firm combinations.
