Small Oversights, Big Consequences: Deadlines, Emails, and Speaking Up

Monday, Nov. 2, 2026

1:00 p.m. – 2:00p.m. ET
Presenters: Cathy Howard, General Counsel; Cari Sheehan, Assistant General Counsel

Program Description:

Missed deadlines and unread emails can turn routine matters into significant problems but the warning signs are often visible before the damage is done. We will explore how to recognize overlooked tasks, communication breakdowns, and other preventable mistakes, and respond when something appears to be wrong. Through realistic scenarios, participants will examine calendaring and inbox-management practices, delegation and follow-up, and the barriers that keep people from speaking up. The program emphasizes timely escalation, clear ownership of tasks, and constructive responses to mistakes, with practical approaches to strengthening accountability and creating a workplace where concerns are raised rather than ignored. Also, we will explore common mistakes that we most often see from attorneys and how to avoid them.
