Thursday, Oct. 29, 2026

1:00 p.m. – 2:00p.m. ET
Presenters: Terri Garland, Senior Loss Prevention Counsel, Attorneys’ Liability Assurance Society (ALAS)

Program Description:

This presentation is intended to promote responsible use of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) consistently with lawyers’ ethical obligations. It begins by explaining how imprudent use of GenAI can create the risk of violating those obligations, drawing on examples reported in case law, the press, and academic studies. The presentation then uses an FAQ format to discuss ethical obligations in detail, focusing on the duties of competence, communication, confidentiality, candor, and supervision. Finally, it offers practical suggestions for reducing the risks of using GenAI.
