Paralegal - Litigation (Denver)

Taft is seeking a Paralegal to support the Litigation practice group in our Denver office.

We are seeking a paralegal with 5+ years litigation experience to join the Litigation team in Denver. All Taft employees operate under a “Client First” philosophy—in all things, we seek to provide exceptional services to our clients.

Responsibilities:

  • Utilize technical databases to search and retrieve supporting documents, exercising independent decision-making as well as making appropriate recommendations to the supervising attorney.
  • Create, manage, and accurately check document productions in litigation discovery process.
  • Monitor, prioritize, organize, and facilitate daily workflow and case management.
  • Conduct fact investigation and research, online and within case materials, retrieving and compiling information in an organized manner.
  • Arrange and manage third-party service and subpoena processes.
  • Operate trial presentation software in hearings and trials, including exhibit presentation and tracking.
  • Prepares or assists in drafting and finalizing legal documents.
  • Manage and maintain document organization and case files, hard copy and electronic.
  • Assist in hearing and trial preparation, including drafting testimony outlines and exhibit lists, compiling documents to be utilized as exhibits, and preparing hearing, trial, and testimony notebooks.
  • Prepare documents with strong attention to formatting, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Provide constructive guidelines to other employees and representatives of third parties who do business with the firm.
  • Perform data entry for managing cases and maintaining documents in the firm’s DMS system.
  • Provide a high level of general administrative support as required.
  • Maintain and submit time entries for the purpose of billing clients in a timely manner.
  • Effectively communicate with other legal and support departments/personnel and clients as determined by attorneys.
  • Understand and draft complex concepts into a legal instrument with superior writing skills.

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of training and experience is required.
  • A certificate of completion from a Paralegal school or institute is preferred.
  • 5 years of litigation experience required.
  • Experience operating trial presentation software in courtroom settings strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with general processes, systems, philosophies, structure, methods and approaches of mid-to-large sized firms.
  • Knowledge of business English, spelling, punctuation, grammar and generally accepted legal terms.
  • Knowledge of legal and general research techniques and the use of software systems available for conducting legal research.
  • Knowledge of court rules and procedures.
  • Knowledge of law office practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of various court electronic filing procedures for applicable practice areas.
  • Skill in the use of software systems specific to your legal department with a strong preference for experience using Relativity and Trial Director.
  • Skill in the use of software systems such as Word, DMS, Excel, Power Point and Outlook.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with the ability to establish good rapport with attorneys, clients, and other employees.
  • Ability to organize, prepare and maintain detailed records and reports, setting up and organizing case databases, creating checklists and other records.
  • Ability to prepare and analyze technical information/reports.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks to carry out assignments in a timely manner.
  • Ability to quickly learn company policies and procedures and learn office methods and procedures.
  • Ability to multi-task and always maintain a professional demeanor.
