Legal Assistant (Columbus)

We are looking for a sharp, energetic, customer-service focused, forward-thinking legal assistant to serve a busy team in Taft’s Columbus office.

We are seeking a Legal Assistant with 4-5 years’ experience to support a team of 3-4 attorneys in varied practice groups, ranging from White Collar Criminal Defense to Healthcare. All Taft employees operate under a “Client First” philosophy—in all things, we seek to provide exceptional services to our clients.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Maintains and organizes paper and electronic files for extremely high-volume practice(s).
  • Transcribes dictation for heavy end user attorneys.
  • Enters and reviews time charges for multiple attorneys.
  • Creates, maintains and retires files in accordance with internal policies.
  • Prioritizes work and monitors court deadlines with docketing department.
  • Processes and tracks requests for payments and reimbursements for multiple attorneys.
  • Proficiently uses Microsoft office suite products to compose and edit documents.
  • Has or develops administrative proficiency in the particular practice area or department.
  • Clearly communicates in a concise, professional manner.
  • Assists in managing client contacts, emails and print documents.
  • Proofreads and corrects own work before presenting it.
  • Performs other administrative/clerical duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Excellent proofreading and writing skills.
  • Proactive communicator.
  • Willing to be an active team member as it relates to the case at hand.
  • Accountable for work product, with strong attention to detail.
  • Able to receive constructive feedback.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite – Word, Outlook and other software as may be required by the particular assignment.
  • Proficient keyboarding, sufficient to enable incumbent to timely and accurately prepare and revise documents.
  • Ability to adapt to workplace stressors and competing priorities.
  • Maintain client confidentiality.
