While our litigators regularly appear before tribunals throughout the U.S., what we know best are Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky. We know the courts, their personnel, and the jury pools from which fact finders are drawn.
In addition to a focus on general commercial and financial litigation, General Litigation includes practice groups that specialize in:
- antitrust
- environmental
- education/school
- bankruptcy
- personal injury (both plaintiffs and defendants)
- securities and class actions
- white collar criminal law
- construction claims
- consumer law
- health care fraud and abuse
- estate and trust litigation
- workers compensation
- domestic relations.
With our headquarters in Cincinnati, home to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, the firm also has an extensive appellate practice. We handle cases we have tried below and many that others bring to us for our expertise.
While we have the experience and skill to fight our client's battles before judges, juries, arbiters, and administrative law judges, we view litigation within the larger framework of our clients' business or personal objectives. Not every dispute requires the commitment of executive time or the expense and disruption of otherwise profitable commercial relationships that frequently ensue when formal litigation is pursued. We have employed a variety of alternative dispute resolution techniques including some we have created to meet the needs of clients engaged in confidential work in highly competitive industries.
We also recognize the advantage of and have used compressed discovery schedules and limitations on discovery as a way to reduce the cost of the discovery phase of litigation. The firm is a member of CPR Institute for Dispute Resolution, and a number of our attorneys are CPR or American Arbitration Association arbitrators.
A growing part of our practice involves work to minimize the risks and exposure of doing business in today's litigious world. Avoidance of litigation is one of our primary goals. Our attorneys work with our clients to define, assess, and minimize litigation risks and to develop programs to help them comply with specific contractual requirements and with the laws and regulations that affect their business.
