Bob specializes in supporting the legal, business, and operations needs of clients in the pharmacy benefit management (PBM) and related prescription drug supply chain industry. Having served as both an attorney and an executive in the PBM industry, Bob advises his clients through a business-centric and pragmatic approach.
Bob brings a unique insider’s perspective and deep understanding of the complex arrangements among the various stakeholders in the pharmaceutical drug supply chain, including:
- Pharmacy benefit managers
- Retail and specialty pharmacies
- Drug manufacturers
- Rebate aggregators
- Discount card providers
- Plan sponsors
Prior to joining Taft in 2021, Bob served as Chief Legal Officer for a national mid-market PBM as well as its affiliated stand-alone Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Plan, with oversight over the strategic development and operations of provider networks and outsourced manufacturer and specialty pharmacy arrangements, in addition to his legal and compliance lead role. Bob also served a long tenure as in-house counsel to one of the “Big Three” PBMs.
Prior to his in-house experience in the PBM industry, Bob served as a regulatory and transactional attorney for law firms in Kansas City and St. Louis, where he counseled hospitals, physician groups, ambulatory surgical centers, skilled nursing facilities, academic medical centers, and managed care organizations in a full range of matters including Anti-Kickback and Stark law compliance, managed care contracting, HIPAA compliance, and the structuring of corporate compliance and ethics programs.
Bob earned his J.D. from the University of Iowa College of Law, an M.B.A. from the University of Iowa Tippie School of Management, and a B.A. from Butler University. Bob is admitted to practice in Missouri, Iowa (inactive status), and is certified under Ohio Gov. Bar R. I § 19 to practice in Ohio while his application for admission is pending.
