CINCINNATI, OH – January 16, 2008 – Taft Stettinius and Hollister LLP announced today the opening of an office in Phoenix, AZ. Theresa (Teri) H. Vella, a partner in the Litigation Department, will operate and grow the firm’s presence in the fifth largest city in the U.S. The office, located in the Biltmore area, adds to Taft offices already in Cincinnati, Columbus, Cleveland and Dayton, Ohio and Northern Kentucky.
“Phoenix is one of the fastest growing cities in the country and there are specific synergies and connections with companies located there and the clients we serve from our existing offices in Ohio and Kentucky,” said Thomas Terp, managing partner. Terp also noted that Phoenix is consistently considered one of the best places in the country to do business, which means it’s a good place to practice law too.
Taft’s historic roots are grounded in Cincinnati and Ohio. Its national reputation was established when partner J. Mack Swigert helped Senator Robert Taft draft 1947’s ground-breaking Taft-Hartley Act and then realize its passage despite President Harry S. Truman’s veto.
About Ms. Vella
For Vella it provides not only a professional opportunity, but a personal benefit too, as it brings her closer to family. Her parents and a sister live in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area. “This is a great opportunity for me to grow the firm’s presence in a community where I have contacts and a strong personal affinity,” Vella said.
Vella has been with Taft for six years. She concentrates on commercial litigation and other general litigation in state and federal courts including securities litigation, international dispute resolution and corporate governance issues. She has been involved in some of Taft’s largest and most high-profile cases including matters relating to SEC investigations, audit committee investigations, international commercial arbitrations, and various litigation matters for Taft's Japanese Practice Group.
Vella is admitted to practice law in the states of Arizona, Ohio, Missouri and Illinois, and the United States District Courts for the Southern and Northern Districts of Ohio, the Southern District of Indiana, and Eastern District of Missouri.
Prior to joining Taft she worked at Armstrong Teasdale in St. Louis, MO. She received a Bachelor's Degree from Boston College, graduating cum laude, and her law degree from Saint Louis University School of Law, graduating magna cum laude and Order of the Woolsak. While in law school, Vella served on the Saint Louis University Law Journal and Journal of Health and Hospital Law.
