Bob Weinberg has joined the Cleveland office of Taft. He previously served as both an attorney and an executive in the pharmacy benefit management (PBM) industry, and brings a business-centric and pragmatic approach to his legal practice at Taft. Taft clients will benefit from his unique insider’s perspective and deep understanding of the complex arrangements among the various stakeholders in the pharmaceutical drug supply chain, including:
- Pharmacy benefit managers
- Retail and specialty pharmacies
- Drug manufacturers
- Rebate aggregators
- Discount card providers
- Plan sponsors
Weinberg’s depth of experience was developed in part during his years serving as Chief Legal Officer for a national mid-market PBM as well as its affiliated stand-alone Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Plan, where he also led various operations, including provider network development and outsourced manufacturer and specialty pharmacy arrangements. He also served a long tenure as in-house counsel to one of the “Big Three” PBMs.
As a member of Taft’s Health Care and Life Sciences industry group, Weinberg will also counsel various health care entities in a full range of issues including:
- Fraud and abuse compliance
- Managed care contracting
- HIPAA compliance
- Corporate compliance and ethics program structuring
Weinberg will continue to support the legal, business, and operations needs of clients in the PBM and related prescription drug supply chain industry, as well as employers and plan sponsors, as a member of Taft’s Private Equity and Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation practice groups.
Weinberg earned his J.D. from the University of Iowa College of Law, an M.B.A. from the University of Iowa Tippie School of Management, and a B.A. from Butler University. He is admitted to practice in Missouri, Iowa (inactive status), and is certified under Ohio Gov. Bar R. I § 19 to practice in Ohio while his application for admission is pending.
