Legal Assistant - White Collar Criminal Defense

We are looking for an energetic, customer-service focused legal assistant to serve our White Collar Criminal Defense team in Taft’s Columbus office.

We are seeking a Legal Assistant with 2-5 years’ experience supporting our Columbus office as a Litigation Legal Assistant in the White Collar Criminal Defense Practice. Legal Assistants serve clients by providing administrative support to attorneys. All Taft employees operate under a “Client First” philosophy—in all things, we seek to provide exceptional services to our clients. 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Exhibits outstanding client service orientation in greeting guests, scheduling meetings and conducting telephone conferences.
  • Proficiently uses Microsoft office suite products to compose and edit documents.
  • Has or develops administrative proficiency in the particular practice area or department.
  • Clearly communicates in a concise, professional manner.
  • Proactively provides administrative support attorneys,  paralegals and/or managers.
  • Assists in managing client contacts, emails and print documents.
  • Transcribes dictation.
  • Proofreads and corrects own work before presenting it.
  • Stylizes documents.
  • Enters and reviews time charges.
  • Creates, maintains and retires files in accordance with internal policies.
  • Prioritizes work and monitors deadlines.
  • Processes and tracks requests for payments and reimbursements.
  • Occasionally performs paralegal-type duties; however primary role is performing clerical duties for attorneys, paralegals or managers.
  • Performs other administrative/clerical duties as assigned.
  • Maintains and organizes paper and electronic files for high-volume practice.


  • Excellent communication and writing skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 2010 – Word, Outlook and other software as may be required by the particular assignment.
  • Proficient keyboarding, sufficient to enable incumbent to timely and accurately prepare and revise documents.
  • Ability to adapt to workplace stressors and competing priorities.
  • Maintain client confidentiality.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Proficient in PowerPoint and Excel.
