Taft Grows Intellectual Property Practice with Addition of Four Patent Attorneys and Expands Footprint into North Carolina

INDIANAPOLIS, IN—Taft has expanded its intellectual property practice with the addition of four patent attorneys from Bose McKinney & Evans LLP. Partners James A. Coles, Ryan O. White and Anthony P. Filomena II and associate Stephen F. Rost join Taft on May 3.

With these additions, Taft will extend its services into Raleigh, North Carolina, where the new attorneys have an established client base. Taft currently has offices in Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus and Dayton, Ohio, Covington, Kentucky, Phoenix, Arizona and Beijing China.

 “We are extremely pleased to bolster our intellectual law practice group with the addition of these professionals,” says Robert J. Hicks, Partner-in-Charge, Indianapolis. “The experience they bring to the firm will strengthen the existing intellectual property services we provide our clients, particularly in the patent area, in Indianapolis and across the firm.”

The addition of these lawyers increases Taft’s intellectual property practice to 13 local attorneys and 28 nationally.

Taft offers a wide range of intellectual property legal services including advising clients on trademarks, copyrights, patents and licensing agreements. This expansion gives Taft deeper bench strength and provides clients with a firm dedicated to offering the highest quality legal services.

Coles will serve as Co-Chair of Taft’s Intellectual Property Practice Group. Coles has more than 35 years of experience assisting local, national and international clients with intellectual property and technology matters in a broad field of technologies. He graduated in 1974 from St. Louis University Law School and earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in 1969.

White is a registered patent attorney and provides counsel on a variety of patent issues. He graduated from the University of Dayton Law School in 2000 and earned a bachelor’s degree from Ball State in 1996.

Filomena, also a registered patent attorney, has a diverse background in electrical engineering, computer science, business and law and counsels clients on a variety of intellectual property issues. He graduated from the IU Law School – Indianapolis and earned a M.B.A. degree from the IU Kelley School of Business in 1997. He earned a M.S. degree in computer science from the University of Pennsylvania in 1984 and a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and computer science from Washington University in 1980.

Rost devotes his practice to patent litigation and patent prosecution. He graduated from the IU School of Law – Indianapolis in 2006 and earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering in 2000.
