From 2007 to 2009, values of commercial real estate may have declined as much as a third or more. In most cases the current value of commercial real estate assessed for tax purposes may exceed the actual value of such real estate. Property owners in Ohio may file complaints with the tax assessor by March 31 of this year to try to decrease the value of that property for 2009.
If such a complaint is successful, the property owner may be entitled to a refund of real property taxes paid for 2009, and may continue to enjoy a reduced assessed value in the future.
If you believe that you want to file such a complaint, or want to evaluate whether you should file such a complaint, you should contact your Taft attorney or one of the local Taft attorneys named in this alert so that you can exercise your right to contest an excessive valuation.
Please contact your Taft attorney or one of the Taft attorneys listed to the right.
Please remember that March 31, 2010 is the last day that you can file a complaint challenging the assessed value of your Ohio real estate for 2009.
