The Recovery and Reinvestment Act provides money to state and local governments, as well as public-private partnerships, through federal grants and loans to support existing programs.
The Recovery and Reinvestment Act requires that the majority of the funding contained within the Act be spent by the end of the year 2010. It is crucial for Municipalities, Counties, and other Special Districts, as well as companies seeking to partner with them, to familiarize themselves with funding programs that may aid critical infrastructure projects.
Some projects receiving funding from the Recovery and Reinvestment Act through Municipalities, Counties, other Special Districts, and their private partners include:
- The Highway Program, with thirty percent allocated to local areas through the Surface • Transportation Program.
- Community Development Block Grants, which provide communities with resources to ad-• dress a wide range of unique community development needs.
- The Neighborhood Stabilization Program, which assists local governments in the purchase • and rehabilitation of foreclosed and vacant properties in order to create affordable housing and reduce neighborhood blight.
- Clean Water State Revolving Funds, which provides low-interest loans and grants to fund • water quality protection projects for wastewater treatment, nonpoint source pollution con-trol, and watershed and estuary management
- Safe Drinking Water Revolving Funds, which provides low-interest loans and grants to • fund drinking water systems infrastructure improvements; the program also emphasizes providing assistance to small and disadvantaged communities and programs that encour-age pollution prevention as a tool for ensuring safe drinking water.
- Community Oriented Policing Services, which fund the hiring of additional law enforce-• ment officers.
- The Rural Community Facilities Program, which provides grants to assist in the development of essential community facilities in rural areas and towns.
- Firefighter Assistance Grants, which provides grants to modify, upgrade, or construct fire stations.
If you have a project that might qualify for one of these categories, please contact a member of Taft's Economic Stimulus Response Team or your nearest Taft office today to discuss additional conditions and opportunities.
