« Back New Form I-9 Delayed until April 3, 2009

February 2, 2009

On January 30, 2009, the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) postponed implementation of the interim rule which would require use of a new Form I-9 and revise the list of documents that an employer may accept to verify employment eligibility.  Under the interim rule, the revised list of acceptable documents will no longer include expired documents, such as expired U.S. passports.  The original February 2, 2009 effective date has been extended by sixty days until April 3, 2009 to allow for an additional thirty-day public comment period and further agency consideration.
