« Back Good News: Effective Date Of Federal Contractor E-Verify Rules Postponed Until February 20, 2009

January 12, 2009

The Department of Justice has agreed to postpone the effective date of the federal contractor e-verify rules until February 20, 2009.  Government contractors have, at least, a temporary reprieve from the mandatory e-verify rules announced last November, which were scheduled to go into effect this week.

This temporary suspension of the e-verify rules was taken in response to a lawsuit challenging the validity of the new rules.  This lawsuit, in combination with the new administration, places the future of the e-verify rules in question.

The e-verify rules and the effect of this recent announcement will be discussed at this Thursday’s Update on E-Verify, Affirmative Action and Other Federal Contractor and Subcontractor Obligations.  If you have not already registered for this event, you may still do so by contacting Sue Schmid at 513.381.2838 or schmid@taftlaw.com
