« Back Ohio Healthy Families Act Pulled From November Ballot!

September 4, 2008

In a surprising but very much welcomed development for Ohio businesses, Ohio Governor Strickland, the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), and the Coalition for Healthy Families announced that Issue 4 - the Ohio Healthy Families Act which would mandate seven paid sick days - has been pulled from the November ballot.  Instead, Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown is expected to introduce some form of paid sick leave as part of a national initiative.  While businesses will have to await the details before deciding whether such federal legislation is worthy of support, at a minimum Ohio would no longer stand out as hostile to business interests and job development.  We are sure that the pressure of thoughtful business people and some informed legislators helped convince the sponsors that Issue 4 was simply wrongheaded legislation when implemented on a state-wide basis.
