« Back Wiseman, Dayton Taft Law Attorney, Receives Certification from the OSBA

March 21, 2008

Dayton, OH, March 21, 2008 – Lisa K. Wiseman, an attorney in the Dayton office of Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP, has been certified by the Ohio State Bar Association as a specialist in Estate Planning, Trust and Probate Law. One of just eight attorneys recently certified in this practice area in the state of Ohio, Wiseman joins a select group of attorneys to have earned this distinction.

Certification of an attorney as a specialist in estate planning, trust and probate law demonstrates that attorney’s expertise of practice skills in this particular area of law. To become a certified specialist, an attorney must:
  • Demonstrate substantial and continuing involvement in a particular field of law
  • Submit references from other lawyers and judges attesting to competency in the specialty area
  • Attend intermediate or advanced continuing legal education courses
  • Remain in good standing with the Supreme Court of Ohio
  • Maintain minimum professional liability insurance coverage
  • Pass a written examination in the specialty area.
Attorneys who have earned a specialty certification must be recertified at least every four to seven years and must report annually to the certifying agency. The Ohio State Bar Association is the largest certifying agency in Ohio and is currently accredited to certify specialists in nine areas of law.

Wiseman makes the fourth attorney in Taft Law’s Tax Department to receive certification as a specialist, joining Dayton partner, Lance A. Gildner (Federal Tax Specialist), and Cincinnati partners, Susan E. Wheatley and Daniel J. Hoffheimer (Estate Planning, Trust and Probate Law Specialists). A member of the firm’s Estate Planning Practice Group, she advises clients on a broad range of personal and succession planning matters, including planning for lifetime gifts and transfers at death, estate planning for families with children with disabilities and asset protection planning. In addition, Wiseman assists clients with trust and estate administrations and represents clients in guardianship proceedings. As a part of her practice, she also counsels clients regarding a variety of gift and estate tax issues. Cincinnati Magazine selected Wiseman as a Super Lawyers Rising Star in 2006 and 2007.

Also actively involved in the community, Wiseman is President of the Planned Giving Council of Greater Dayton. Additionally, she serves on the Board of Trustees for The Disability Foundation, Inc. and the Planned Giving Committee for the Dayton Art Institute.
