Professional Development Workshop
February 13, 2007
Join Taft lawyers at the Miami Valley Human Resource Association's Professional Development Workshop.
Topics will include:
Ohio Legislative Update. Ohio voters passed two major initiatives affecting employers last November – the Fair Minimum Wage Amendment and the Ohio Indoor Smoking Ban. We will discuss the current status of these changes in Ohio law, including legislative, administrative and judicial actions to clarify and implement the laws and practical, how-to tips for compliance.
Immigration Update. National policy on foreign workers in the United States continues to be an issue. Foreign workers pose a daily concern to employers as they struggle to ensure that employees are legally permitted to work inside the U.S. We will discuss best practices on hiring foreign nationals, immigration compliance, Social Security Administration “No Match Letters,” action plans for employers and other hot topics in immigration.
Wage and Hour Update. In August of 2004 the Department of Labor put in place the first major changes to the Fair Labor Standards Act implementing regulations in decades. The new regulations raised new issues and put new twists on existing wage and hour concerns for Ohio employers. We will discuss some of the most troubling concerns for human resource professions with an aim of helping you to avoid an audit. Topics will include using the salaried, non-exempt classification, how to properly deduct from final paychecks, using a dual-rate system, and other important wage and hour issues.
