Taft Wins Acquittal Bid for Client in Insider Trading Case

A federal judge in Chicago has acquitted Taft’s client, an environmental lawyer, of insider trading charges after his co-conspirator was found innocent of the same crime.

On Dec. 20, U.S. District Judge Manish Shah entered a judgment of acquittal, and also granted the requested alternative relief of a new trial.

Earlier in 2023, Taft Chicago associate Carly Chocron second-chaired this complex trial in the Northern District of Illinois. In addition to delivering the opening statement, Chocron played a central role in the preparation and execution of the defense. At that time, the jury found our client guilty. Chocron and Benesch partner Chris Grohman prepared the post-trial motion seeking to overturn that result.

Chocron is an associate in Taft’s Compliance, Investigations, and White Collar Defense practice and represents clients in a range of complex criminal and civil matters. She has experience representing individuals and companies in various state and federal litigation matters ranging from fraud, breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, conversion, and negligence.
