Taft’s Growth Continues with Cincinnati Office Relocation

Taft, most recently ranked in 2023 by American Lawyer as the 82nd largest law firm by revenue and approximately the 55th largest in attorney headcount, is pleased to announce its plan to relocate its Cincinnati office to the state-of-the-art Great American Tower, which is the preeminent and largest commercial building in downtown Cincinnati.

Taft signed a long-term lease, commencing Jan. 1, 2026, to occupy more than 88,000 square feet across four floors. On a firm-wide basis, as the result of expansions to three new markets and its organic and lateral growth strategies in each of its markets, Taft’s attorney headcount has grown to approximately 250% of what it was in 2017 and its revenues have more than tripled during that same period. As a result, Taft was named the fastest growing law firm in the Am Law 100 in 2022. Similarly, as the result of its strategic growth strategy, Taft’s Cincinnati attorney headcount has grown to approximately 150% of what it was in 2017.

Taft now has more than 875 firm-wide attorneys, 2024 projected revenues of approximately $650 million, and approximately 1,500 total employees. Taft Cincinnati has approximately 215 total employees.

“This move marks a continuation of Taft’s strong growth trajectory,” said Taft Cincinnati Partner-in-Charge James Zimmerman. “Great American Tower is rich in amenities and high-tech features, making it the ideal location for Taft Cincinnati’s new home base. We are eager to build out a modern, collaborative space that is tailored to our team and clients, and conducive to continued strategic growth.”

The Great American Tower’s efficient floor plan will allow Taft to optimize the office layout, allowing for additional room to grow. The remainder of the buildout will prioritize thoughtful communal spaces for internal and client meetings and activities. Benefitting from the smart office layout, Taft expects to increase its communal space by nearly 60%. An 8,400-square-foot Taft Center will serve as a gathering place for clients, community leaders, and members of the Taft team.

“Taft is first and foremost in the talent business. During the last several years, we have steadily added strong legal talent and resources across the firm. In 2022, we expanded into the Detroit market with the Jaffe merger, adding 120 attorneys. We pride ourselves on being decisive and entrepreneurial in our client service and operations, while maintaining a caring and inclusive culture. The Cincinnati relocation is another important step to attract and retain the best talent,” said Robert J. Hicks, Taft’s chairman and managing partner.

Many of Taft’s offices have expanded and modernized in recent years. In 2023, Taft Chicago completed a comprehensive remodel of its office space, increasing its footprint from 70,500 square feet to approximately 106,000 square feet by adding a state-of-the-art conference center and additional office space. In 2022, Taft Minneapolis added approximately 16,000 square feet to its existing 93,500 square feet. This expansion was preceded by a full demolition redesign of the Minneapolis office, which was completed in 2020. In 2022, Taft Columbus relocated to the Huntington Center, increasing its footprint to 50,000 square feet of space. Taft Indianapolis opened a new first-floor modern Taft Center in 2019 and has expanded onto additional floors in recent years, occupying more than 114,000 square feet.

Office space is an important investment for Taft, providing best-in-class environments for its clients and teams. It is also an important extension of the Taft brand which focuses on being the modern law firm.
