ANTHONY R. LICATA is the Partner-in-Charge of Taft's Chicago office and is chair of the firm's Administration Committee. Tony focuses his practice on private equity venture capital matters and on major commercial real estate transactions.

Tony entered the practice of law as an associate with Sidley & Austin in 1979, concentrating in real estate. In 1984, he became Vice President and General Counsel of The Broadacre Companies, a real estate developer with offices in Chicago and San Francisco, while remaining Of Counsel to Sidley & Austin with an active practice in real estate and venture capital matters. In 1989, as part of a reorganization of The Broadacre Companies, Tony became the President of Broadacre Partners, Inc., with responsibility for the management of the North Pier Chicago mixed-use development. In 1992, he returned to Sidley & Austin as a partner, before joining Shefsky & Froelich in 1995, where he was Chief Operating Officer prior to the merger with Taft.

Tony holds leadership positions in a wide range of civic, professional, public service and corporate organizations. He was awarded an AV Preeminent Rating from Martindale-Hubbell, its highest rating for ethical standards and legal ability. He is a member of the Leading Lawyers Network and was named to the Illinois Super Lawyers list. In addition, Tony has been selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America in Real Estate Law from 1999-2018. Tony is also ranked as a top lawyer in the area of Real Estate–Zoning and Land Use in the 2008-2014 editions of Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business. He is a frequent speaker and has often lectured at Continuing Legal Education Seminars on Land Use Law and on Commercial Real Estate Leases.

Tony received his B.S., summa cum laude, from MacMurray College and his J.D., cum laude, from Harvard Law School.
